Terms and Definitions

  • SOP: Standard Operating Procedure
  • QMS: Quality Management System
  • GLP: Good Laboratory Practices
  • Calibration: Aligning equipment to a traceable standard under controlled conditions.
  • Validation: Checking equipment performance to ensure accuracy.

Procedure

Installation

  1. Power Requirements:
    • Select a site near a power source. Ensure the voltage conforms to the AC adapter specifications.
  2. Installation Site:
    • Ensure the site is level, stable, and free from air currents, vibrations, sunlight, temperature fluctuations, or electromagnetic interference.
    • Adjust the balance bubble to the center using the leveling screws.

Calibration and Verification

  1. Calibration:
    • Perform annual calibration or when:
      • Installation site changes.
      • Abnormal behavior is detected during weighing.
    • Use traceable standard weights calibrated by an ISO 17025:2005 accredited lab.
  2. Daily Verification:
    • Conduct by trained personnel.
    • Record the temperature and humidity before and after verification.
    • Follow these steps:
      • Turn on the balance and allow it to self-check.
      • Verify using standard weights (10 mg, 100 mg, 1000 mg, and 10 g).
      • Record results in the logbook or attach printouts.

Operating Procedure

  1. Ensure daily verification is complete.
  2. Verify the bubble is centered and the area is clean.
  3. Press [O/T] to reset the balance to 0.0000 g.
  4. Place a butter paper or weighing boat on the pan and press [O/T].
  5. Add the item to be weighed and note the stable reading or press the ‘Print’ key.

Preventive Maintenance and Cleaning

  1. Before Use:
    • Ensure the bubble is centered.
    • Avoid working near air currents or vibrations.
  2. During Use:
    • Close the glass doors when not placing or removing items.
    • Use dry spatulas and containers for weighing.
  3. After Use:
    • Clean spills immediately using a damp cloth.
    • Remove the weighing pan for thorough cleaning.
  4. Transport:
    • Avoid moving the balance without proper authorization.

Precautions

  • Perform all activities as per the SOP.
  • Ensure only trained personnel handle the balance.
  • Place the balance on a stable, flat surface.
  • Check the bubble before use.
  • Record all activities diligently.

Calibration Schedule

  • External Calibration: Annually
  • Daily Verification: Before use
